The Standard Finger Lime is one of the most unique citrus you can grow – a tough, compact Australian native known for its spikey  branches and incredible fruit. Its tiny, glossy leaves and sharp thorns give it a rugged look, while the fruit hides a surprise inside: tiny juicy pearls of citrus beads that burst like lime caviar. 

These zingy beads are a favourite of chefs and home cooks alike – perfect for garnishing seafood, salads, desserts, and cocktails. The tree itself grows upright on a grafted standard stem, making it perfect for pots, courtyards, or small urban gardens where space can be tight but impact is big.

Varieties Available :

Yellow Finger Lime –

Bright and zesty, the Yellow finger lime produces slender golden fruit packed with citrus “caviar’. The pearls inside are tangy and refreshing – perfect for seafood, desserts, or drinks that need a pop of sunshine.

Brown Finger Lime :

Rich in colour and flavour, the Brown Finger Lime offers deep amber fruit with sparkling lime pearls. Its flavour is more earthy and complex, adding a gourmet edge to sauces, cocktails , and sweet dishes.

Features :

Spiky, hardy Australian native citrus

Produces “lime caviar” fruit in shades of green, pink, or red

Compact upright growth, great for pots, small urban gardens, or apartment balconies

: Fragrant spring flowers attract bees and pollinators

Drought-tolerant and tough once established

Fruit are long gated (finger shaped ) and contain small sweet beads of  fruit.

Plant Care :

: Light –  Best grown in full sun.

: Watering – Allow to dry between waterings. Rule of thumb, water 2-3 over the warmer season, less over winter.

: Soil – Plant in free-draining soil. For pots use a good quality potting mix designed for outdoor containers.

: Feeding – Use Novatec 3 monthly fertiliser for pots, or the garden. This is an excellent quality fertiliser. Always dampen the soil first over summer before spreading the Novatec.

: Climate – Suited to Auckland and northern NZ; protect from frost.
