Presented in a 14cm nursery pot, this beautiful Peacock Plant is a wonderful choice for anyone who appreciates unusual foliage and natural tropical beauty.
Plant Care Instructions
Light
Thrives in bright, indirect light. Position in a well-lit room away from harsh direct sunshine, which can scorch its delicate leaves. It can tolerate moderate light but may grow more slowly.
Watering
Keep the potting mix lightly and consistently moist, allowing the top 1–2cm to begin drying between waterings. Avoid allowing the plant to dry out completely or sit in waterlogged soil. Rainwater or filtered water may help prevent brown leaf tips if your tap water is high in minerals.
Soil
Prefers a rich, moisture-retentive yet free-draining indoor potting mix. A combination of quality indoor potting mix, perlite and fine orchid bark provides good moisture balance and root aeration.
Humidity & Temperature
Enjoys moderate to high humidity, ideally around 60% or above. Prefers temperatures between 18°C and 27°C. Protect from cold draughts, heaters, air-conditioning and sudden temperature changes.
Feeding
Apply a balanced liquid indoor plant fertiliser diluted to half strength approximately once a month during spring and summer. Reduce feeding during autumn and winter.
Special Care
Calathea makoyana appreciates consistent moisture, warmth and humidity. Brown or crispy leaf edges may indicate low humidity, inconsistent watering or mineral sensitivity. Avoid placing the plant near heating vents or cold windows.
Pet Safety
Calathea makoyana is generally considered non-toxic to cats and dogs, making it a lovely choice for pet-friendly households.
